Recovery Counselor
Reports to: Director of Asian American Recovery Services
Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree in Psychology or Human Service related field
- Minimum six months job-related experience in substance abuse and mental health treatment services preferred.
- CASAC or CASAC-T is a plus.
- Bilingual in English/Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) required.
- Good oral & written communication skills.
Responsibilites:
- Perform screening /intake: Interview clients, family members, and other significant members to obtain information for admission.
- Answer phone inquiry calls which are seeking advice on substance abuse and gambling treatment, and resources.
- Provide pre-vocational services such as ESL lessons, computer skills, resume writing, job search and interview skills.
- Facilitate client’s access to vocational training, skills development and employment placement.
- Performs individual and group counseling under the direction of appropriate supervisor.
- Provide clients or family members with information about addiction issues and about available services and programs, making appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Provide interpretation services for clients who are limited English speakers in clinical sessions for medical consultation appointment, psychiatrist evaluation, and vocational counseling visits, as well as group counseling session.
- Assist clients in obtaining welfare benefit coverage or payment such as Medicaid or other health insurance carrier after admission.
- Maintains records and reports regarding client progress based upon treatment, behavior, and diagnosis.
- Translate administrative and counseling materials from English to Chinese or other Asian language.
- Provide community outreach and educational activities to Asian American community to recruit new clients.
- Able to perform duties on Saturday or evening hours during weekdays when needed.

Hours: Monday and Friday, 9am – 5pm
